Dennis Donald:

Dennis DonaldDennis Donald has worked in the private, nonprofit, education and public sectors. He has worked for private consulting firms; directed and held high-level positions in nonprofit organizations; managed a university center focusing on training, research and facilitation for state and local government; and served in management and policy positions in state government.

Dennis formed The Osprey Group with long-time friend and colleague, John Huyler, in 2000. Prior to this, he was a senior facilitator and director of The Keystone Center's Science and Public Policy Program. From 1991 to 1996, Dennis served as the regional director for The Nature Conservancy's Western Region. He served as the deputy director for the Colorado Department of Natural Resources from 1986 to 1991. He directed the University of Colorado's Center for the Improvement of Public Management in the mid-80s. From 1970 to 1984, he was involved in economic research, initially with BBC Research and Consulting and later as president of the Boulder Research Group.

Academically, Dennis has a Ph.D. in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines. He also has a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado. Dennis earned his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Denver.

John Huyler:

John HuylerJohn began his career as a facilitator and mediator in 1981. In 1985 he started his own consulting firm and, between 1986 and 1999, was also employed at The Keystone Center, a nationally-recognized nonprofit that creates "innovative consensus-building processes to improve public policy decisions." He joined his good friend and colleague, Dennis Donald, to form The Osprey Group in 2000.

John has designed and facilitated innovative and successful processes addressing a variety of substantive issues throughout the United States and internationally. He is widely recognized as a facilitator who is able to coax the most out of groups whether they are made up of five or over one hundred people. John also has extensive experience in strategic planning and working with boards and staff, mostly in the nonprofit and government sectors. Prior to 1981, John worked on water issues for the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, as director of an intercultural exchange program in Kenya, East Africa, and as a flight instructor.

John has traveled widely, having visited 45 countries and all continents, including Antarctica. He speaks French, Spanish and Swahili.

John holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Princeton University.
